Master Data & Recipe Management

Data is a vital component of any organization. In manufacturing, well managed data is crucial in making sound decisions, increasing productivity and operational efficiency. However, most organizations are overwhelmed with the vast amounts of data in numerous different applications.

At Hyla Soft we help our customers to create a data management strategy that takes into consideration best practices as well as specific customer needs.

In the context of manufacturing, Hyla Soft implements solutions to mange production definition data from engineering to production in a way that is well organized and structured.  Data Organization is an important factor to consider in that the ease of which data is stored should be matched by the way it is ultimately retrieved. Often, data is poorly managed and an incorrect version or release gets released to production.  When this happens manufactures end up producing the wrong product; wasting valuable time and resources.  Functionalities provided by Hyla Soft’s Master Data Management Solutions include:

  • Version control
  • Release control
  • Centralized repository of data
  • Management of production definition data/recipe data (materials, resources, equipments, set points)
  • Bill of material management
  • Bill of process management
  • Engineering bill of material management
  • Manufacturing bill of materials (equipment, tools, resources, work instructions, g-code, etc)

In modern manufacturing as we know it, data is usually not confined to a single application. More and more customers are striving to adopt the best in class applications for the various functionalities required to run a manufacturing organization. Whether it is a Manufacturing Execution System, an Enterprise Resource Planning system or a Plant Lifecycle Management system, each system has its own niches. Furthermore, the boundaries between each system have started to be increasingly blurry as each system’s functionalities stretch into the next. At Hyla Soft, our strategy is to provide expertise and guidance based on the customer’s requirements and the industry best practices as well as to always adhere to industry aligned message schemas to ensure interoperability between all the applications involved. This approach ensures that even though an organization may choose to use multiple applications to meet its operational needs, there is always a single source of truth for each set of data involved.  Benefits seen from a master data management system include:

  • Reduce waste
  • Drive lean initiatives
  • Increase throughput
  • Greatly reduces unnecessary proliferation of product information

Data is a vital component of any organization. In manufacturing, well managed data is crucial in making sound decisions, increasing productivity and operational efficiency. However, most organizations are overwhelmed with the vast amounts of data in numerous different applications.

At Hyla Soft we help our customers to create a data management strategy that takes into consideration best practices as well as specific customer needs.

In the context of manufacturing, we implement solutions to store data in a way that is well organized and structured. Key manufacturing data includes:

  • Master Materials (Raw, intermediate and finished goods)
  • Bill of Materials (BOMs),
  • Product definitions (Recipes),
  • Equipment information
  • Equipment and instrument measurements
  • Personnel Information

Data Organization is an important factor to consider in that the ease of which data is stored should be matched by the way it is ultimately retrieved. Often, data is required during a critical situation, such as a product recall. The ability to efficiently access the necessary information and isolate the problem as quickly
as possible is invaluable in a manufacturing facility. Hyla Soft consultants are trained to keep factors such as these in mind during the design and implementation of a data management solution.

Data in a manufacturing facility can be used in a variety of ways to benefit an organization.

Product Definition / Recipe data can be used to guide production processes to achieve ideal operating conditions.

A recipe, which contains all the required information to produce the product, can be used to validate materials being added to a product. In this way someone can be informed before an incorrect material is used and thus ultimately prevent any waste from being generated.

Another example of meeting ideal operating conditions would be the monitoring of specific data and applying various tolerance levels which could trigger early warnings and notifications before a process reaches an emergency state. Preventative measures such as these can prove to be extremely useful.

Lean Manufacturing Initiatives are increasingly important in modern manufacturing. Companies are forced to find ways to increase productivity without further investments. The key to successful lean initiatives is good data and the ability to contextualize and analyze that data. Data gives one the ability to take measurements in a specific area, e.g. “How long does it take to perform a product change over?” Putting a list of change over times in context, one can determine if long changeovers are typically the result of a specific shift, a specific product change over, etc. Now the actual problem can be addressed and reanalyzed to determine if the root cause has been removed. In this way, the usage of numerous resources can be optimized to improve overall productivity and operational efficiency.

As a company Hyla Soft prides itself on providing data management solutions for a variety of different clients in the various different manufacturing industries. Our professional consultants work hand in hand with customers to design and implement a solution that fits both the customer requirements as well as Industry standards.
